How does the fluctuating currency rate affect
my earnings?
After each payday, take out what you think you will need for your living
expenses and put the rest into a Canadian (or British) funds account.
Your money is unaffected by the fluctuation rate.
What about e-mail?
There are many, many Internet facilities available. It is
easy to pick up a free hotmail account and be in close and frequent contact
with family and friends back home.
Can I ship some of my belongings to Taiwan?
Yes. Pack up your things (musical instrument, favourite books, extra clothes,
linen etc.) and ship them by sea mail before you even leave your home
country. They will arrive about 6 weeks later. If you are here by then
you can pick them up or have them delivered. If your belongings arrive
before you do we will receive them and store them until you get here.
What about taxes?
Your taxes are 20% until you have worked in Taiwan for 183 days in a calendar
year (Jan. 1- Dec. 31). On the 184th day the rate drops to 10%. If you
have paid the 20% and have been in the country for more that 183 days,
you are eligible for a tax refund.
Can you tell me some average prices for daily

Do I have a teaching assistant?
Yes. There is one Chinese teacher in each classroom to help with translations
or explanations as needed.
I am not a teacher. How can I teach?
Don't worry. We have a great programme. You just deliver it. We train
you to use our methods and materials. You use your smile and personality.
The result is a 'whole pile of fun' and the children enjoying English
class.
Do I need a work permit?
Yes, you do, but we do most of the 'leg work'. You need to supply us with
a copy of your degree, pass a physical examination and sign a contract.
It is almost as easy as that.
Can I sign for less than one year?
Yes you can but we do not pay an 'arrival bonus' for contracts of less
than one year. Bulletin Board Things for sale, rooms for rent, shared
accommodation Post-it notes from NSTs
